IPGAD Hosts Dialogue on the Current State of Bangladesh and its Regional Impact

On the “Current State of Bangladesh & its Regional Impact”, Institute of Policy, Governance and Development (IPGAD) hosted in collaboration with MWRC, OIC Study Group, CNI at Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club, Malaysia on 7th December 2024. The Chief Guest was Tanseri Syed Hamid Albar, and dignitaries from South Asian and South-East Asia joined the event. The session was moderated by Secretary of MWRC, Dr. Isharof Hossain.
The Executive Director of IPGAD, Mohammad Alauddin stressed significance on developing harmony between and among nations in the region. The newly made changes in Bangladesh is a glorious achievement of students and common people of the country. The true spirit of the mass uprising in Bangladesh is to defend its sovereignty and integrity. Certainly Bangladesh will look forward to redefine the relationship with its neighbours on the principle of sovereignty equality. He pointed out that the revival of SAARC will really help Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Maldives, Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan and Afghanistan in an equal standing position to take regional issues and pursue towards progression. Mr. Alauddin emphasized that Bangladesh should engage with ASEAN and the ripen relationship between and among ASEAN nations to quest for South Asian context. The visit of Malaysian Prime Minister in Bangladesh is a significant milestone in its relationship with Malaysia and so far is the most important visit in Bangladesh hosting any foreign head of the state during this interim government since August this year. In his remarks, the Executive Director shared that the Interim Government has shown hope by forming several reformation Commissions such as constitutional Reformation, anti-corruption Reformation, Judicial Reformation, Public Administration Reform, Election Commission Reforms and some others. The Chief Advisor very recently inter-faith dialogue where religious leaders of different groups and religion were invited to share their concerns and recommendations. The reaffirmation in the new Bangladesh was echoed from all and that goes a praiseworthy move from the side of the Chief Advisor.

The Research Director of IPGAD, Md Mostafa Hosain highlighted that Bangladesh has brought enormous change with the sacrifice of the student and mass people for eliminating discrimination, restoring democracy and ensuring fundamental rights of the people which all were curbed by the fascist regime. The post 5th August Bangladesh has been reconstructed by a new interim government under the leadership of the globally renowned Nobel Laureate dignitary His Excellency Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus. The unique part of this present interim government is the participation of new generations who are called Gen-Z. The interim government, in pursuing its foreign policy, inherited many challenging issues such as Rohingya crisis and relationship with its neighbours. Among its priorities, Professor Yunus led interim government emphasized upon sovereign equality, building foreign relations based on the principles enshrined in UN charter. To this end, Bangladesh priorities to revive SAARC, the old organisation once working to progress South Asian nations and is now in a frozen condition. On ASEAN aspect, Mr. Hosain opines that Bangladesh is more inclined towards ASEAN which has been a successful forum in its region to minimise many challenges and excel in several areas. The present interim government is akin to engage with Southeast Asian nations in different capacities. The Research Director views that the Chief Advisor has brought all political parties under the umbrella of national interests and received positive response regarding disinformation and reaffirmation in protecting Sovereignty of Bangladesh. The Chief Advisor reiterated since his oath taking moment that Bangladesh belongs to all Bangladeshis and we must focus on the progress of all. Let us hope for the brighter Bangladesh.
